Oozing charm, a beautifully restored cottage, close to the river | Cottage in Dartmouth
2 Bedroom Cottage in Dittisham, Dartmouth
Summary:
Alpha Cottage is a stunningly restored home in Dittisham's picture postcard Lower Street. Exposed beams, stonework, and elegant décor bring a homely warmth with nautical freshness. In touching distance of Mill Creek, it's ideally placed to unwind and relax - for romantic couples, or for quality family time (dogs are welcome, too). There's plenty to explore - breathtaking walks along the River Dart Trail, and river connections to the valley's towns, villages, castles, gardens, and more.
Accommodation:
From the entrance hall with ample space for coats and boots, a stable door opens into the living room that's packed with character, exposed timbers, exposed stonework, wood floors, and traditional whitewashed walls - all combining perfectly to give the feeling of a traditional gamekeeper's lodge. The log burner with a stone hearth is a wonderful focal point, as it the quirky wooden staircase. There's a sofa, two armchairs, and additional window seating.
There's a vibrant contrast as you step through into the kitchen-diner. High ceilings and bright tones create a light and airy space. It's fully equipped with a Belfast sink, electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. Get a glimpse into the past, too - the splashback behind the range cooker shows Lower Street as it once looked years ago. The dining table comfortably seats four. From the kitchen, access the private outdoor seating area with flowerbeds and garden furniture.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The en-suite master bedroom is set into the eaves and has a king-size bed with wrought-iron frame. There's built-in storage as well as a log-effect electric heater built into the exposed stone feature wall. The second bedroom is a twin room overlooking the garden, also with built-in storage. There is an additional shower room on the first floor, too.
Please note that there are a few places in the cottage with very low headroom. The staircase may not be suitable for people with mobility issues, and the garden is not suitable for small children.
Outside:
At the rear of the property, there is a gravelled garden with an outdoor dining area which is perfect for barbecues. The garden stretches across the back of the cottage with an elevated seating area at the far end that has restricted views of the river at Dittisham Mill Creek.
Parking:
There is no parking included with this cottage, but there is unrestricted on-street parking about 100 yards away on Riverside Road, or there are two pay-and-display car parks in the village on The Level or The Ham.
Nearby:
From Alpha Cottage, you are a 2-minute walk down to the waterside at Dittisham Mill Creek. Judt u pthe road is the Red Lion Inn - not just a pub, but also the general store and Post Office. Further along and you'll reach the quayside where there's the Anchorstone Cafe, Ferry Boat Inn, and fast ferries to the National Trusts's Greenway estate and Dartmouth.
